The power of pants

Friday, May 21st, 2010

Here’s food for thought for your weekend: someday soon you may be able to plug your iPod, or cell phone into your pants for a charge. Sound unbelievable? It does to me, but researchers at UC Berkeley have created microscopic fibers that can produce electricity from simple body motions like bending or stretching. You can read all the details in the LA Times article, One day your pants may power your iPod.

Now, you may be asking yourself, what does this have to do with real estate? Absolutely nothing. But, there’s not that much currently going on in real estate that’s all that interesting. The best news I’ve read this week is that the CA real estate market isn’t getting worse. The economy still hasn’t recovered to the point where we’re seeing a real upswing in the market. I know it’s coming, it’s just slower than we’d all hoped for.

If you’re interesting in taking advantage of lower prices, or want to be positioned to jump in when the market starts to turn, now is a great time to get your real estate salesperson or broker’s license. Start now and you’ll have the license of your dreams by the end of the summer. To find out more, check out the links below.

Tax credits for home buyers

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

If you’re thinking about buying a home, but confused about whether you qualify for a tax credit, a recent column in the Los Angeles Times entitled You may qualify for a home-buyer’s tax credit offers a clear explanation of the requirements for tax credits for home-buyers, along with information on how much time you have to make your home purchase. In reading the article, I found it interesting that many more people qualify for credits than I’d originally thought, so if you’re looking for a new home, you might want to read up on the details.

Similarly, if you’re a real estate agent working in residential real estate, keeping current on real estate news and programs is essential to your survival. Buyers and sellers depend on you to help them navigate through the ever-changing laws and programs that effect real estate sales.

Home foreclosures down in CA

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

The front page of Wednesday’s, Los Angeles Times read Pace of foreclosures slows in California. Finally, we have some good news about real estate. Experts agree that lenders are doing more to forestall foreclosures; and, whether it’s a result of government pressure, or a realization that it’s better for the market place (and their own bottom lines), it looks like this new way of doing business is here to stay. I think this is great news. It’s time for the real estate market to get back on track. With things looking hopeful again, isn’t it time for you to get into real estate?

Low prices, low interest rates, it’s time to get into real estate

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

When you combine relatively low prices for real estate and record low interest rates you have an ideal environment to begin a career in real estate. A recent LA Times blog posting entitled Mortgage rates approach all-time lows explains that interest rates sank near all time lows last week. It’s thought that low mortgage rates will help stabilize home sales. While that remains to be seen, anyone with good credit, and a decent down payment should be able to find a great deal on a loan. And, of course, that translates, to not a more stable real estate market, but also offers a variety of new opportunities for those working or investing in real estate.

The real estate market – have we hit bottom?

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Like everyone interested in the economy and real estate, I anxiously read a variety of newspaper articles, and watch numerous news reports about the real estate market, trying to understand the intricacies of the market, and where it’s headed. Mostly, I end up with more questions, and a giant headache.

In a recent (July 28) article in the New York Times, entitled Recovery Signs in Housing Market Stir Some Hope, one pundit states “we’ve found the bottom.” That sounds good to me. I’m ready for the market to start improving; not only because of the impact the down turn has had on me financially, I’m also just tired of the ongoing uncertainty. So, what do you think? Have we really hit bottom this time? Or is this just another “tease” on a too real reality show?

If you’re someone who sees opportunity where others see despair, now is a great time to get into real estate. If, in fact, the market has hit bottom, there’s only one place for it to go, and that’s up. Getting a real estate license is the key to profit in real estate. And, in that regard, I am the most optimistic guy you can find. Over the years I’ve helped 50,000+ people get their real estate salesperson and broker’s licenses. If you’re ready to get your license, I can help.

A Little Good News

Friday, June 19th, 2009

Finally, there may be a glimmer of home in the real estate forecast for Southern California. According to a LA Times article published on June 18, 2009, Southern California’s median home price rose slightly in May of this year (Southern California Home Prices Rise Slightly in May). For the past year, many of the home sales have occurred in the low end of the housing market, with banks unloading properties for deep discounts, pulling the median price down. Now, we’re seeing a rise in the sale of more expensive properties, which helps raise the median, and may be a real indication that the market has reached bottom, and prices are starting to make sense again. In a related article entitled, Forecast for California: Gradual Clearing, economists at Chapman University see home prices strengthening in 2010 as banks become willing to lend to prospective buyers. Both articles make it clear that we aren’t out of the woods yet, but that they see hopeful times ahead.

Once the upswing starts, wouldn’t it be nice to be in the right position to take advantage of rising prices? The best way to start is with a real estate license. Whether as an investor, lender, salesperson, or broker, with a California real estate license you’ll have the knowledge and resources at your disposal. Intrigued?

Wondering about foreclosure?

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

If you’re wondering what exactly happens when a house goes into foreclosure, the Los Angeles Times is running a periodic series which contains a wealth of information about the issue. The most recent article, entitled, Headed to Foreclosure? Here’s What to Expect explains the process in detail (click on the title to read the full article).

Real estate is a business of cycles. The current down cycle, is worse than those in the recent past, but history shows that real estate always rebounds. If you’re interested in taking advantage of great deals which are often available in a down housing market, or want to be ready for the next upturn in the market, getting a real estate license is the place to start.
