Surviving and thriving in a down real estate market

Times are tough, there’s no doubt about that. It’s hard to make a living in difficult economic times. For anyone in, or thinking about a career in real estate, the prospects look bleak. But I believe that even in a down market, someone who really wants to succeed can do so. A case in point is found in a recent article in the Los Angeles Times, Foreclosure King Surfs Troubled Home Waters (click on title for full version of article, and video).

The article describes how a surfer, Leo Nordine, found a formula for success in a down real estate market. As the Times notes, “he is a case study in how an intense young man without a formal education can be propelled by his drive and work ethic to the height of success…” He understands that anyone can fall victim to hard times, and first and foremost he believes in treating his clients with dignity and respect; this approach, combined with a gift for pricing and timing the market, has made him a very rich man.

It’s easy for all of us to be paralyzed by the current economic conditions, but clearly there is another way. With drive and creativity, you can prosper, even in today’s real estate market. If this article has sparked your interest in real estate, the first step to success is to get a real estate license.
